smokey eyes on latina Smokey Eyes!Smokey eyes is a very popular eye makeup look that has been around for quite a while; and it’s showing no signs of going away. This eye look is worn by all kinds of women from celebrity stars to the average working lady.

In this post I provide simple instructions on how to create your smokey eyes makeup look.

Creating this look is fairly easy to do and it does not take up much of your time. You can create this look in as little as 10 minutes. Here are the steps…

Step 1: Apply eye primer.

Begin by using eye primer to make sure that your eye makeup stays on perfectly. Swipe the primer on the lid of your eye and let it dry before you use any eye shadow.

Step 2: Apply eyeliner and smudge.

Now it’s time to put on your eyeliner. It is best to use a pencil eyeliner because it is easier to smudge. smudge eyeliner Smokey Eyes!Apply eyeliner on your upper eyelash area making the line thicker in the middle of the eye. Using your finger or an eye shadow sponge wand, smudge the eyeliner so that it creates a smokey effect.

Step 3: Use light eye shadow first, then blend with dark eye shadow.

Apply a cream (light) colored eye shadow on your upper lid up to the browbone (and no higher).  Now pick up an eye shadow brush and blend a dark gray color on your eyelid from the lash line to the crease (again, no higher than that). Blend in an upwards motion. Make sure to blend the dark gray color into the lash line so that the eyeliner disappears. The key here is blend, blend, blend.

Step 4: Apply mascara to finish the look.

Finish with a few coats of mascara. You want your eyelashes to look thick and dark. See my post on Love Those Lashes for more information on how to achieve this.

1. Black, brown, gray, and violet are excellent eye shadow colors that you can use to create smokey eyes. If you use black then use a black eyeliner pencil. If you use brown, then use a brown eyeliner, and so on. You can also use black eyeliner with blue eye shadow for this look as well. Play with different colors and see which ones work best for you.

2. To glamorize your smokey eyes look, use a light eye shadow color with some shimmer in it, e.g. shimmery cream color. This color can be used by itself in the highlight area of your eye.

3. To really make your smokey eye look “pop out” your lips should be a nude or flesh color. You want the focus to be on your eyes.

4. Don’t have any eyeliner on hand? Use a dark eye shadow in place of it. Remember that the smokey eye look is supposed to look smokey and blended. Using eye shadow to line your eyes works beautifully with the smokey eyes look.
